Diabetic Complications are the Culprit
糖尿病本身不會致命，糖尿病所引致的併發症才是致命元兇。若糖尿病控制不當，身體長期在高血糖的狀態下，血糖會破壞體內的大小血管和神經系統，損害各個器官。常見的糖尿病併發症包括中風、心血管疾病、視網膜病變、腎病變、神經病變、足部病變等，嚴重的會引致死亡。由於糖尿這慢性病初期沒有明顯病徵，病況很容易被輕視，當等到出現併發症便已經太遲，無法挽回。因此，及早認識自身病況以及患上糖尿病併發症的風險，就能及早延緩併發症的發生。
Diabetes itself is not fatal, its complications are the culprit. If diabetes is not properly controlled and the body is in a state of high blood glucose for a long time, blood glucose will damage blood vessels, nervous system and various organs. Common diabetic complications include stroke, cardiovascular disease, retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, foot lesions etc., in which severe cases can lead to death. Since diabetes is a chronic disease with no obvious symptoms at the initial stage, its condition is easily underestimated. Until complications appear, it is already too late and irreversible. Therefore, early recognition of one's diabetic condition and the risk of developing complications can delay the onset at early stage.
